Don’t worry… you didn’t do anything wrong. Flat roman shades require some fuss when raising and lowering the pleats. It’s just the nature of forcing fabric to fold in a way it’s not used to.
But if you have a wide shade, or difficult fabric, you may not want to wait until your fabric learns to behave. So what do you do?
You add a roman shade rib at each row of rings. This will add structure and have your shade folding where it’s supposed to fold.
Wait! What if you already have sewn your roman shade? How are you going to add ribs into casings that don’t exist?
Easy. You simply iron-on rib tape just below each row of rings. Iron-on rib tape instantly creates a casing for your ribs… then you slide the ribs into the tape and you have a ribbed roman shade.
Too easy!

Transforming an old Roman shade into slatted shades was a great idea! Sure freshened up and put life back into the old. Works great in a bathroom window.
