Are you sewing something that will have your seams exposed? Like a sheer curtain? Then try using a french seam. A french seam pieces your fabric together hiding the ugly raw edges of a basic seam.
You can use a french seam when piecing fabric for a duvet cover… extra wide roman shade… table cloth… any sewing project that will have exposed seams.
