Hi, Jenny. Love your e-book and videos! Quick question…I have sewn everything for my flat roman shades and am getting ready to mount it to the dust board and the wall for an inside mount. In your videos you describe some brackets for doing this with an inside mount, but I haven’t yet found anything that shows more specifically what these brackets are or how to mount to them. Am I missing it? Thanks in advance!

  2. Jenny T. Says:

I have a video that shows me installing a dust board with the L-Brackets (or angle brackets)
    http://www.simplesewingprojects.com/how-to-install-a-dust-board/

These “brackets” are L shaped and have 2 holes on each end. When you install them on the wall or window frame they create a ledge where you can place your board on. The video shows all!

    Hope this helps

Hello Jenny. Thank you for putting together such an easy to understand video learning program. As a visual learner it is priceless to me! I am a uber beginner and need further instruction on how to actually sew on the rings. Do I hand sew them on? Do I sew through both the lining and the facing or just the lining? I appreciate any information on this (most likely) simple procedure! Thanks! Kristin

Click here for the video for showing you how to sew on roman shade rings. And yes, you sew through all layers of fabric and lining.

  5. Amy Weems Says:

is there any reason why i can’t use the tape with the rings already sewn on rather than individually sewing on each ring?

  6. Jenny T. Says:

You can definetly use the roman shade tape. My method with the individual rings is the more professional result, but lots of people use the tape. The only thing I don’t like about the tape is how it’s sewn on. You have to sew your tape through all layers of fabric, so that means you have much more stitching showing on the front of your roman shade. And this may not be desireable.

You could sew the tape to the lining first, but you must tack at each ring once you sew on the fabric… to attach the fabric to the rings. If you don’t, then the fabric will simply sag forward and not pleat, since nothing is holding it to the lining.

Roman shade ring tape is great for relaxed roman shades where you only need to stitch up the shade on the sides… and it’s also ideal for london shades, because any stitching is hidden within the box pleats.

And you have to use the tape when making hobbled roman shades… but that’s a very different style.
